Developing a Grid in Premiere Pro
Settings for the Video Project:
General: Editing Mode: DV Playback / 25 fps.
Timebase: 25 fps
Video: Frame Size: 720 x 576 Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.067
First Approach: Draw a rectangle in Photoshop and import it into Premiere Pro to arrange it finally as a Grid on the screen:
1. Problem: to create grid for displaying various stills/clips.
2. Screen Size: 720 x 576,
a. 720/4 = 180
b. 576/4 = 144
c. Make a file in P/S, 180 x 144
i. Select all
ii. Stroke 4 px inside
iii. Delete background and centre while leaving a black frame around transparent rectangle.
iv. Save as ‘frame.psd’ place all [and rename them] on separate tracks above a white frame. 16 times!] this will ultimately require 17 tracks before adding any images subsequently to fill in the ‘boxes’.
1. horizontal [positions] 90 270 460 640 [first number]
2. vertical:[positions] 72 216 360 504 [second number]
:
90/72THIRTEEN 270/72FOURTEEN 460/72FIFTEEN 640/72SIXTEEN
90/216TWELVE 270/216ELEVEN 460/216TEN 640/216NINE
90/360FIVE 270/360SIX 460/360SEVEN 640/360EIGHT
90/504FOUR 270/504THREE 460/504TWO 640/504ONE
Another approach:
DRAWING GRAPHIC TITLES:
In order to create divisions, separation lines for split screen divisions.
1. File à New à Title = Adobe Title Designer Window
2. Draw Rectangle: à Transform Panel
a. x = 360 / y = 288 / width = 720 / Height = 6
b. x = 382 / y = 288 / width = 764 / Height = 6
3. àFill:
a. H=226 / S = 96 / B = 20,: R = 2 / G = 13 / B = 51 [020D33]
b. àFill Type à Bevel: [24346E]
c. Size = 4
d. à Lit
4. à File à Save as = D/B h_bar.ptrl [Do not close the Title Designer Window]
5. à Transform à Rotation = 90. [of rectangle]
a. x = 6 / y = 288 / width = 576 / height = 6
6. à File à Save as = D/B v_bar.ptrl
Place these two files onto the Time Line [three times for each file] = 6 tracks for the lines
Rename each title on the Time Line as follows: Ha, Hb, Hc, Va, Vb, Vc.
This will require 10 less tracks on the Time Line than the previous example.
Video Track: 1 = white background
2 = Ha 3 = Va 4 = Vb 5 = Vc 6 = Hb 7 = Hc
As the track is selected the effects panel becomes available. You can position each ‘line’ in the Effects Panel. The numbers indicate the position of the centre of each file.
Ha Va Vb Vc Hb Hc
1080 x 432 891 x 864 712 x 864 533 x 864 -360 x 288 1080 x 144
If you use vertical and horizontal bars: You can advance them to form squares:
You would have to move the centres of these bars to form each rectangle
Horizontal Bars: THREE BARS [from the bottom] second number
1. Ha = 432 = ¼
2. Hb = 288 = ½
3. Hc = 144 = ¼
Vertical Bars: THREE BARS [from the left] first number
1. Va =891 = ¼
2. Vb = 712= ½
3. Vc = 533 = ¾
Each sequence is 5 secs.
Put markers in at 5 secs [to hold position], then at 22 frames to adjust the lines. [giving 22 frames for the animation]
Beginning:
Second Number Constant:
Ha= 432 / Hb = 288 / Hc = 144
First Number Constant
Va= 891 / Vb =712 / Vc= 533
Intervals for the bars based on their overall movement in the frame:
Vertical Bars:
Vertical position of the end of the bars 864-288 = 566
↑ 288
576 432 ß716à
↓ 576
720
864 -358 533 712 891 1080
Horizontal Bars:
From left:
0 = 1080 ¼ = 900 ½ = 720 ¾ = 540 Full = 360 [first number position]
From right:
0 = -360 ¼ = -180 ½ = 0 ¾ = 180 Full = 360 [first number position]
Horizontal Position: [second number position]
Top = 0 ¼ = 144 ½ = 288 ¾ = 432 Bottom = 576
Vertical Bars:
Vertical Position: [first number position] constant
Right = 533 Centre = 712 Left = 891
From Bottom: [second number positions]
0 = 864 ¼ = 720 ½ = 576 ¾ = 432 Full = 288.
2 = Ha 3 = Va 4 = Vb 5 = Vc 6 = Hb 7 = Hc
Ha Va Vb Vc Hb Hc
